How words affect you

Every minute of every day we are all bombarded by words.  Sometimes it is a performance review from a superior, criticism from a client, or opinions from friends.

Some of what we hear is positive, sadly most for what we hear is negative.

The words you hear affect you negatively

How do you feel about yourself when your superior (employer, teacher, or mentor) tells you that your work is below par?  Substandard? Needs improvement?

How do you feel about yourself when a client, customer or a subordinate tells you “you do not know what you are doing?” or “you are stupid?”

How do you feel about yourself when anyone tells you what you cannot do and points out your limitations?

If you are like me, you feel negative about yourself and when you feel negative about yourself you can easily downwardly spiral and experience more disasters in your future.

When you feel negative about yourself your potential shrinks.

It has been my experience that when I hear negative opinions of my work, my abilities or myself I not only began to believe they were true, I experienced feelings of low self-confidence and low self-esteem.

From the negative words I have endured, I have felt unworthy and inferior to others.

There has been a time in my life that when the negative comments continued for months and years, I started to believe that my inadequacies were not only expected of me, they were my entire identity.

Once I the negative words convinced me that my inadequacies were my identity, I did not try anything to better myself.  I allowed those negative words to not only limit my current potential, but to potentially limit my future potential fur success in my professional and personal lives.

The words you hear affect you positively

How do you feel about yourself when your superior (employer, teacher, or mentor) tells you that you work is excellent or that it exceeds expectations?

How do you feel about yourself when a client, customer or a subordinate tells you “thank you?” or “they appreciate your work or efforts?”

How do you feel about yourself when anyone points out all your potential or tells you that you can do anything you want in life?

Again, if you are like me, you feel positive about yourself and when you feel positive about yourself your future is bright, and you believe that you can achieve anything.

When you feel positive about yourself your potential expands.

When you hear positive words spoken about yourself, you will feel positive about yourself as well as on your outlook for the future.

From the positive words I have received, I have felt valued by my peers and others and equal to others.

Because people have spoken positive words over me for years, I no longer believe that my inadequacies are expected of me, and I know that they are not my identity.

The positive mindset I developed because I received positive feedback from others have given me the confidence to believe that I can do anything that I desire to do.  To believe the sky is the limit.  To believe I am worthy of success, love and more in my professional and personal lives.

Do not wait for others to be positive towards you.

You do not need to wait until others speak positive words to you.  You can start by speaking positive and encouraging words to others.  When you start to see the positive in others and in the world, you will start to see the positive attitudes within yourself and that alone can change your future for the better.
